Survivor Guatemala Rewatch Part 1

This one is going to be longer than the Amazon post as I am typing  my thoughts out as I go rather than waiting till the end. So I going to break this into multiple parts.

The visuals for this season are amazing and that is why I picked this to be my second rewatch season. The thing is I remember very little about season. The things I remember most are the brutal 11 mile trek and the last 4 or 5 episodes. I don’t know if that is a good or bad thing. I will see now on to the main event.

Pre Switch Episodes 1-3

Consider the returning player thing has been used a few times in recent years I have no feeling on Bobby Jon and Stephenie returning. I didn’t have no problem at the time either. One funny thing was when Stephenie joined Yaxha Brian said “With her we are never going to lose” I thought “Damn dude did you even watch Palau”.

Survivor Amazon Rewatch

These are thoughts I had watching the season again after many years.

Pre Merge

In the beginning Jenna was more of a mystery than the rest of the cast.
Christy gave off a woe as me vibe that didn’t appeal to me. Luckily she seem to adjust better after the merge into a person more enjoyable to watch.Rob seems awkward during the early parts of the game the tribe mix up help him alot.

My thoughts on various TV shows 2

This is loosely connected to the past post  on this subject. I am just changing the formatting of it. Much like the movies and trade/graphic novel series these are just my thoughts on the shows and not a full blown review. On the more recent stuff I will not spoil any major plot points.

Buying/Selling Type Reality Shows:

Storage Wars
I started watching this show around the beginning of season one. The people are bidding on abandoned storage units. They are a cut throat bunch when they think big profits are involved. Some of the guys are straight assholes bidding things up they don’t want just so the other guy will go broke. I was about to drop the show because it seems all sunshine and rainbows as it looked like everyone was making out like bandits. Then somewhere around episode 5 or 6 they showed a bidder  losing money on a unit. Which to me brought a little more excitement to show . I now got to see these people can and do lose money in this business. Nowadays I catch the show when I can which is not often due to factors beyond my control.

Pawn Stars
I enjoyed this show at first as it had a wacky group of people working in this pawn shop. It is entertaining when someone brings in a  treasure to learn it’s junk. Like the one guy who had a fit about some antique he brought only to discover it was fake. The thing is after mid way though the second season I dropped this show. The reason being I felt there was nothing new I could get from the show as all the variations on the format have been played out.

American Pickers
I enjoy this show and catch when I can. The main guys are a fun couple of guys that seem to be having fun traveling around looking at junk. I think the reason I like this show is the hunt for the next big thing. Their shop assistance is nice to look at as well. I hope sometime in the future they have a behind the scenes type of show so I can see some of the logistics of the travel and moving of their purchases.

Hardcore Pawn
I quit watching this show after the second episode. As it felt like a hyped up version of Pawn Stars with none of the good vibe. I admit it may have gotten better but I was not sticking around to find out. Given that I got burned out on Pawn Stars I did not have hope for it’s Bizarro cousin keeping my interest long.

My thoughts on various TV shows

Just like the movie version this is just my thoughts on some of the things I have watched from the TV side of things. To keep this fresh this is only taking in account what I seen since 12/7/10. Their are also some shows not listed that will get their own posts.

Transformers Prime s1e1-5 (or season zero) “Darkness Rising (Parts 1-5)”
This is a very good show and hope to keep up with it. I think it is good they are trying to condense the various versions of Transformers into one standard continuity. The show pulls no punches when it comes to the fight scenes. You can see the echos from the past media incarnations in the show especially the recent movie and animated series. The throwbacks to the old generation one stuff like lines ripped directly from the original movie was especially awesome. Keeping this vague as possible some small moments I enjoyed were Afterburner to the face, zombie robots and the brutality of the fight scenes.

The Closer s6e11 “Old Money”
I liked the opening as it was just balls to the wall crazy. The mind games Brenda played with the suspects were fun to watch. The whole shakeup of the department subplot after last episode’s cliffhanger is moving along nicely. My only nitpicks are not anything to do with the show in particular just at the way TV works. First thing is the silly thing of showing 10 episodes straight though then going on a long hiatus. Then coming back to show 2 or 3 episodes followed back a half a year break. Seriously did not even know their was a new episode on until later the next day. The second thing is recently with this genre of TV the bad cop or attack on a cop storyline seems to occur a lot.

Little People Big World s6e19&20 “Twins at Twenty” & “Moving Out”
The last two episodes of the series was a bit of a letdown. The story arc of these two episodes appear to be about changes but at the end of the show everything stayed the same.
Being based in real life I guess that was inevitable though.
The only real change was ending of the show. Which sad to say may be a good thing as the family looks to be going though a rough time. Hopefully everything works out for them in the end.

Mythbusters s8e22 “President’s Challenge”
Fun episode but the Ancient Death Ray 3.0 myth seemed unnecessary and an excuse to get the President involved. The promoting of science and math among young people is a good cause but wished they did something else to promote it. I guess I have to see it in action but did not get how a netted barrier was helping aim their mirrors. Probably feel stupid when I finally understand the concept. The car flip Myth was just crazy fun but man they went though a ton of cars. They probably get a discount at the junkyard.

The Walking Dead thoughts

The show is going along at a slow pace but it seems Rick’s character growth is going at a fast pace. Truthfully it could have been the same way in the early books. I don’t remember him being a cold hearted speech giver in the early days.

The slower pace is leading me to believe that they won’t make to the prison by the end of the sixth episode or if they do a large chunk of the early comics are going to cut out.

The zombies using bricks as tools and climbing ladders is a totally new breed of zombie than the books.  The new characters are okay but it is hard for me to get attached when they seem to be cannon fodder.

None of the above nitpicks bother my enjoyment of the show it just going to take me a little while to break the two apart in my mind.
